In Kenya William Ruto Wins Election

William Ruto was declared the winner of a closely fought election after garnering 50.49 percent of the vote against Raila Odinga’s 48.85 percent. 

The announcement is also a culmination of a prolonged verification processes that has been interrupted several times after complaints by supporters of the main candidates.

The vote was carried out peacefully, with international observers praising the electoral commission for a job well done. The East Africa Community, the Intergovernmental Authority on Development (Igad), the Commonwealth and the African Union (AU)/Common Market for Eastern and Southern Africa (Comesa) observer missions in Kenya also praised the National Police Service for their professionalism at the polling stations.

Speaking shortly after he was declared President Elect at the Bomas of Kenya on Monday, Ruto said ‘’I was prayed to victory.”

Ruto has often declared his Christian faith in public and has not shied away from openly expressing his emotions occasionally telling his opponents he had more to thank God for.

uto is a 55-year-old rags-to-riches businessman who had characterised the vote as a battle between ordinary “hustlers” and “dynasties” who had ruled Kenya since independence from Britain in 1963.

After the results were announced, he vowed to work with “all leaders” in Kenya.

“There is no room for vengeance,” Ruto said, adding: “I am acutely aware that our country is at a stage where we need all hands on deck.”
